On July 6th, we’ll be checking out the Depot Town Band, which is scheduled to play on Main between William & Liberty between 7:00 and 9:00 PM. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or drink, though it’s also a good plan to bring water and shoes that you are ok dancing on concrete in. Let’s socialize and have some fun moving and grooving, see you there!

About The Group

In 2011, Matt Balmer had a vision to start a new community big band in the Depot Town area of Ypsilanti, which plays in the Southeast Michigan area. The group is a 17 piece big band, with vocals, playing classic ’30s songs to more modern dance and swing charts. The Depot Town Band has attracted players from all over Michigan, including students from Eastern Michigan, University of Michigan and Michigan State.

As a straight ahead big band jazz group, the Depot Town Band takes musical queues from Count Basie and his orchestra, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Thad Jones, Maynard Ferguson; as well as more modern composers like, Tom Kubis, and Gordon Goodwin. No set is complete without a few vocals.  You can hear a wide variety such as Rogers and Hammerstein, George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, and others from the Great American Songbook.
