Lindy hop is an exciting and playful dance, and it can be done to a wide variety of music styles. Big Band, Jazz, Folk, Classic Rock, Blues, and many others are in the list of music genres it works well with, though by far the largest numbers dance it to big band music. This workshop will explore dancing to slower tempos of music, including technique and styling. Join after for a potluck and, if you’d like, for the Blues Cafe dance (with some swingable blues mixed in).

More Detailed Workshop Information
4:30 Lindy Hop Basics, Basic Flow, and Basic Stylings
This part of the workshop is dedicated to getting very detailed, with students learning and practicing movements and concepts at a relaxed pace. Here, students learn to feel more locked in at a wide range of tempos. Learn why movements are done the ways they are and get detailed knowledge on how the pieces of the lindy hop basics fit together. The attention to detail makes this an excellent session for beginners and more advanced dancers alike.
5:30 Momentum, Turns, and Playful Stylings
This is a great session for dancers of all levels. In this hour, learn more about how your momentum works with your leading and/or following to make a smooth dance. Explore how to give yourself more options and flexibility when it comes to interpreting a lead, or giving a lead, properly. We’ll also delve into timing and speed, plus playful ways to express individuality through our dancing.
6:30 Lindy Hop For Blues Music
To round things out, we’ll be exploring how music phrasings can work, how we can transition into some basic blues and blues movements (and back), and how we can add some fun blues styling to our lindy hop when we want to, whether to blues music, big band music, or other jams.
